| About Me |
Hello and Welcome to Rimba Raya Jewels, Rimba Raya means rain forest in Indonesian, so Welcome to Jewels from the Rain Forest! Most of the gem stones I use in my designs, come from countries which have rain forests.
My name is Elizabeth, and I love designing and making unique handcrafted, artisan jewelry. I only make one of a kind, (OOAK), because when I begin a design, I have no pre-conceived knowledge of what I am about to make. The stones and my hands do most of the work, unless I hit a snag, then the right brain comes alive again, and takes over. Now you have learned my designing secret, which is..... I have none, it just happens.
I do have a Minor in Art, and the urge to create jewelry that is unique and different. We are all different, so why should we all wear the same things. Jewelry is very personal, and it needs to fit the body and personality of the individual who wears it. Jewelry speaks to us through our entire being, and when it talks in such a persuasive manner, we have to have it, now! I love making "wearable art" that speaks its own language! I use lots of gemstones in most of my designs and very little filler, because the gemstones need to do the "talking". Depending on the cut and density of the gemstone, the piece may be a little heavy. I enjoy seeing a person pick up a piece my jewelry, smile, try it on and say, "Sold"! One of my greatest pleasures is watching a person experience pure joy when she or he tries on something I designed and made, and then falls "in love" with it. Small pleasures bring great rewards to the human spirit.
Like most people who get into this business, I had another career, one of assisting students to do and be the best scholar they could possibly be. And as a former teacher, in the field of Social Sciences, I fell in love with the rain forests, and have never looked back!
My husband and I have traveled to many different parts of the world, and walked in many rain forests. It is an incredible experience to be in this vast forest and commune with nature. It is rather like being in a gigantic cathedral. When you first enter, everything is very quiet, then you begin to hear the music, because the birds have started to sing. After visiting the rain forest, you realize that losing these vast, wonderful areas of the world is something that must be stopped. For this reason, my "spoke's bird", Murphy, will be keeping you informed, in his blog, about what you can do to help us save the rain forests of the world. Since part of our company name means rain forest, we decided to donate ten percent of the profit, from our business, to the Greater Good's, Save the Rainforest Project. When you purchase jewelry from us, you will also be helping in this endeavor. |
